Il s&rsquo;agit en fait de simples oignons rouges (<em>cipolla rossa<\/em>), mais ils se caract\u00e9risent par un go\u00fbt sucr\u00e9. Ils sont cultiv\u00e9s dans les provinces de Vibo Valentia, Campora San Giovanni et Cosenza. Cette sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9 italienne a \u00e9t\u00e9 introduite par les Ph\u00e9niciens. En raison de leur go\u00fbt sucr\u00e9, en Calabre, la recette de la <a href=\"\/sortiment\/suesses-und-gebaeck\/suesse-aufstriche.html\"><strong>Douceur d&rsquo;Oignon Rouge de Tropea IGP<\/strong><\/a> a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e. Les piments sont cultiv\u00e9s en grande quantit\u00e9 et am\u00e9liorent toutes sortes de sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9s calabraises. Ainsi, lorsque l&rsquo;on entend parler pour la premi\u00e8re fois de <strong>confiture d&rsquo;oignon rouge de Calabre<\/strong>, on pourrait penser qu&rsquo;elle est \u00e9galement \u00e9pic\u00e9e ou au moins piquante.
